Qatar Football Association (QFA) in collaboration with Al Noor Institute for the Blind, organised and event today to celebrate and commemorate the 21st anniversary of International Day for People with Disability.

The celebration featured an organised mini marathon in which 110 students from different schools and disability centres in Doha participated in to celebrate this day. Participating schools and centres included Al Duhail Primary School, Al Hikma International School, Audio Education Complex, Tamakon Training Centre. The day brought a fun-packed program which included bouncy castles, and a variety of games.

Khalid Al Kuwari, Director of Marketing and Communications kick-started the marathon and awarded the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners along with Dr. Hayat Nathar, Director of Al Noor Institute for the Blind, and Khalid Al Shuaiby, PR Manager of Al Noor Institute for the Blind.

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is a United Nations sanctioned day that aims to promote an understanding of people with disability and encourage support for their dignity, rights and well-being.

Khalid Al Kuwari, Director of Marketing and Communications said: “We are very happy to be here celebrating this special day with Al Noor Institute and various different schools and disability centres in Doha. It is our duty to ensure that we try to improve different parts of life for people with disability by taking part in the community; therefore, organising today’s celebration and allowing people with disabilities to interact with students from different schools and centres, provides an opportunity to raises awareness about broad disability issues.”

He added: “To commemorate and organize a mini marathon and different activities for the students to enjoy is a heart-warming experience for us. We hope that our work with the Al Noor Institute for the Blind leads to more joint events in the near future as it is part of our social responsibility program for this season.”

Dr. Hayat Khalil Nathar, Director of Al Noor Institute for the Blind said: “We thank QFA for their support in organizing and celebrating the International Day for People with Disability with Al Noor Institute for the Blind. The theme this year is “Break Barriers, Open Doors: for an inclusive society and development for all” and organising this event with QFA and inviting different schools in Qatar demonstrates our commitment to get our students involved in the community.”

She added: “The students had a really good time and enjoyed the mini marathon. We look forward to working with QFA on many future events.”

Established in 1998, this institute works to extend educational services to the blind to help them overcome their disability and prepare them to undertake more socially productive role.
