The American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar (AmCham Qatar) today hosted Martin Torgil Tideström, Qatar Financial Centre Authority’s Director of Business Development, at a special edition of its Distinguished Speaker Series focusing on the phenomenal growth of Special Economic Zones in the Gulf. AmCham Qatar’s Distinguished Speaker Series is a leading forum for business leaders in Qatar to get the insights and information they need. Briefing the members of AmCham Qatar and regional business leaders, Tideström revealed new measures taken by the QFC to target a broader range of companies, including from the Americas, and efforts to enhance the way they do business in Qatar.

“The QFC has recently undertaken several legal and structural enhancements to encourage a broader range of non-regulated firms and structures to seek licenses,” Tideström said. “Today, in addition to accepting firms that operate in the financial sector, we license media, events management and sports management companies and IT consultants. The essential criterion, however, for all new firms is that they can assist the State of Qatar in realizing its development objectives as laid down in the Qatar National Vision 2030.”

AmCham Qatar Chairman, Robert A. Hager said: “American and Qatari business leaders in Doha look to AmCham Qatar and the Distinguished Speaker series for the latest developments and insights to help them make decisions, network, and grow business here. I would like to thank Mr. Tideström for joining us and for offering deep insights into the legal, tax and other enhancements undertaken by the QFC to improve the way American, domestic and other companies set up and support private sector development in Qatar.”

According to Tideström the QFC Authority also recently changed its licensing and registration process for non-regulated activities, reducing the turnaround time for applications to four weeks or less from four months in the past. AmCham Qatar hosts events open to AmCham Qatar members and members of the wider business community, and serves as a key forum for American, domestic and international businesses to pursue common commercial interests and build relationships in Qatar. The next Distinguished Speaker Series is on November 17, featuring Jeffery Johnson, President of Boeing Middle East.
