Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), will launch a new season of its premier Sustainability Education and Professional Development Programme in March this year.

Aimed at creating technical awareness and knowledge of green buildings and sustainability in Qatar, the new season of the education programme will feature an array of standardised courses and workshops. These courses will highlight a multitude of related topics, including sustainability in the built environment, rating systems, essentials of a green building, and green buildings’ certification process. Since the launch of the Premier Sustainability Education and Professional Development Programme in November 2014, over 1,100 trainees have attended numerous courses encompassing 16 different topics related to green buildings and sustainability.

In addition, to mark the start of the new season, QGBC has today launched a survey titled ‘What will you learn this year, 2016?’ The survey seeks to understand and identify gaps in Qatar’s green building and sustainability education sector. It is aimed at helping QGBC expand its current portfolio of professional development training courses to respond to the ever increasing demand in the country. The survey can be accessed through QGBC’s website: http://www.qatargbc.org/courses

Engineer Meshal Al Shamari, Director of QGBC, said: “Education and sustainability-oriented professional development in Qatar are key pillars of QGBC’s mission to foster awareness and understanding of green buildings in Qatar. QGBC is offering specialised sustainability education programmes in partnership with leading national and international education providers, including the U.S. Green Building Council.” He continued: “We continuously work with our partners and our network of sustainability professionals locally, regionally and internationally to expand the existing education portfolio in an effort to bridge the gaps between theory and implementation.”

The survey’s outcome will be shared with the wider community to provide a thorough insight into sustainability trainings in Qatar and to enhance knowledge of sustainability. Hamoda Youssef, Head of Communications at QGBC, said: “We have been delighted to witness the success of this programme since its inception in 2014. Our research and education team continuously study the market to help tailor the courses and workshops to the needs of the professionals and, in large, for the whole industry. We always encourage designers, consultants, engineers, architects, contractors, corporate executives and students to join our courses.”

QGBC’s sustainability programme is aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030’s (QNV 2030) goals to create a vibrant sustainability culture in Qatar. Through this programme and other relevant initiatives, QGBC supports QF’s mission to foster a progressive society and unlock human potential.
