Qatar Leadership Centre (QLC) and Georgetown University welcomed the inaugural class for the new Executive Master’s Program in Leadership, Policy and Innovation, as they began their studies yesterday at QLC headquarters in Doha. This customized program, with the degree to be conferred by Georgetown University, is offered exclusively to QLC graduates who have successfully completed one of the Centre’s three National Leadership Programs.  The nine-month program provides students with world-class business education in critical areas important to Qatar.

H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Chairperson, QLC Board of Directors, noted, “QLC was established by H.H. the Amir of Qatar, to support and empower Qataris in their various fields. This partnership with Georgetown, and support from Qatar Foundation, establishes a collaborative partnership with leading global academic institutions both in Doha and abroad. It will further accelerate progress in providing a platform for leadership excellence, enabling our country nationals to reach further heights in fulfilling their potential. They represent the best of Qatar’s bright future — and this partnership goes a long way to creating the conditions of their success."

H.E. added: “There are so many people to thank. From the vision and support of our country leader, to the support of our colleagues at Qatar Foundation, Georgetown Doha and Georgetown Washington. The QLC executive management team have worked hard on delivering this particular program to support the careers of our alumni.”

“Georgetown University has been a leader in education since its founding in 1789,” remarked Dr. Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani, member of the Board of Directors and Managing Director of QLC. “Our partnership with Georgetown is a reflection of the significant strides QLC has made in the past five years to become a national platform for leadership excellence.” Dr. Abdulla, who serves on the Georgetown University Board of Directors in Washington, expressed confidence that the new Executive Master’s degree program “will qualify alumni to contribute to the development of Qatar in important ways in the decades to come.”

The Dean of Georgetown University in Qatar, Dr. Ahmad Dallal, commented that    the Executive Master’s in Leadership, Policy, and Innovation “provides professionals the opportunity to both expand their leadership capabilities and their knowledge of global business. QLC alumni enrolled in the program will understand how their decisions have significant impact and how non-market factors affect international economic and political success in business ventures.” The program allows qualified QLC graduates to build on the knowledge and expertise achieved through their participation in QLC’s Programs. Applicants accepted in the new Program underwent a rigorous two-month admission and evaluation process; the selection panel included members of Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and QLC.

In this first module participants focus on the concept of principled global business leadership and policy approaches that support it. They are introduced to conceptual frameworks as well as the basics of political economy and global markets. Prior to receiving the degree, those enrolled will have successfully completed all modules held in Doha, a residency module in Washington, DC, USA, all required online coursework, and other degree requirements. They will then become full members of Georgetown’s global network, currently numbered at more than 178,000 alumni.
