The Qatar Leadership Centre (QLC), the country’s prominent centre in developing promising leaders, is organising a 10 day study tour for its current and future leaders to Singapore and China. The visit has been arranged to give all 33 future Qatari leaders the opportunity to study best practice from both countries.

Through firsthand experience the participants will learn how different organisations function and will identify which aspects can then be adapted for use in Qatar, they will also gain rare insight from meeting other national government agencies. The study tour started on the 13th of June with students returning on the 23rd of June.

The first part of the trip will be 3 days in Singapore. Singapore was chosen as one of the destinations because of its strong economic history and highly developed urban planning. While travelling through Singapore, leaders will be encouraged to increase their understanding and draw lessons from Singapore’s success as a knowledge based economy. This is inextricably linked with QLC’s core ambition to empower talented individuals and enable them to excel collectively, as these are the necessary measures towards building a better future.

QLC was created to build a fast track and institutional programme that works to foster leadership. It aims to advance the leadership potential of Qatar by seeking out Qataris who have a proven talent, then developing their leadership potential, in order for them to excel. The Singapore and China study tours will be a mixture of visiting various reputable organisations and meeting officials from both the government and private sector.

The trip hopes to emphasize that every public and private sector initiative is always underpinned by people and leaders. QLC is dedicated to develop the long term competitiveness and sustainability of Qatar by focusing on the most valuable resource - the Qatari people.

The second leg of the trip will be a 6 day visit to China. Here the students will gain insight into the historical background of the steady growth of the country. They will visit successful Chinese companies and will return to Qatar armed with ideas that will continue to drive Qatar and its economy forward.

Students will explore and learn from the successes and challenges of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Experience, and will take away valuable insight which could then be used when Qatar hosts the 2022 Football World Cup.

Some other key highlights of the leadership focused trip will include visits to the Singapore economic development board, The Urban Redevelopment Board and the China Municipal Government Office.

QLC was in part inspired by an Emiri decree in 2008 with the formation of the QLC Board occurring in 2010 under the Chairmanship of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Heir Apparent. For the people of Qatar, QLC offers a channel to reach the heights which they and others believe that they are capable of doing. By directing the investment of resources, QLC champions best leadership development practices from around the world, enabling those that continue to perform at the highest level to succeed as leaders for the benefit of Qatar as a whole.
