Qatar Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has announced that the much-hyped QR180 million ‘Education Park’, which aims at disseminating information on ways to conserve water and electricity in an innovative way, will open doors to the public by April 2014. Quoting a Kahramaa official, Al Watan reported that work was in progress at the under-construction Park in Thumama area.

The official added, “The Awareness Park will serve as a centre of learning dedicated to increase awareness among school and university students about the need for rationalisation of electricity and water consumption. It will educate and entertain simultaneously in order to attract children and youth.”

According to the official, different models of ecofriendly electricity generation and water desalination plants will be exhibited at the park to increase awareness about the latest ecofriendly devices available in the global market. The Park underlines Kahramaa’s commitment to realise the goal of sustainable development as envisaged in Qatar National vision 2030.

The Park boasts of a design that minimises obstruction of daylight by providing a landscape that encourages greenery and fights desertification. The Park will use solar energy to heat water and treat grey water. It will use recyclable materials. It will adopt devices that eliminate excessive energy consumption, control indoor pollutants and provide noise insulation.

In addition, the building’s shape reflects the local cultural identity. It is a clear example of the intelligent new technology of construction as well as control and surveillance systems. It is worth mentioning here that the Awareness Park has bagged the coveted sustainability award.
