The Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center (QTTSC) at Qatar University’s College of Engineering (QU-CENG) recently hosted a defensive driver training program for professional drivers of Qatar University. The program was sponsored by Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) and conducted in collaboration with Engineering Solutions, a local technology provider specialized in developing driving simulators and training software.

QTTSC Director Prof Faris Tarlochan said, “This training program fits within our core strategy to develop a road safety culture and improve driving standards, in collaboration with our key partners. QTTSC aims, through its many projects, to draw attention to the urgent need for safer roads for all, and to take the necessary measures and make significant and long-term contributions to road safety.”

QTTSC Assistant Professor Dr. Wael Alhajyaseen noted that this course is considered as one of the important training courses in traffic safety, which aims to enhance and develop the skills of drivers to help them avoid traffic crashes and deal with various risks on roads including the mistakes of other drivers. Raffat Zreik, Operations Manager at Engineering Solutions said, “Road safety is an integral part of Qatar’s rapid development. We are proud to contribute to this development through our many projects and campaigns. This program was delivered by an internationally-accredited defensive driving instructor and utilized an advanced driving simulator. It aimed to reduce the risk of collision and avoid dangerous situations, despite adverse conditions or the mistakes of others.”
