An agreement signed yesterday between Qatar University (QU) and Qatar Railways Company (QR) will enhance coordination and communication for the construction and operation of the Red Line North Rail Station at QU in line with Qatar Rail Development Project (QRDP).

The agreement was signed between QU President Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al-Misnad and QR CEO Eng Saad Ahmed Al Muhannadi in the presence of QU VP and Chief Academic Officer Dr Mazen Hasna, QU VP and Chief Financial Officer Dr Humaid Al-Midfaa, QU VP for Research Dr Hassan Al-Derham, SESRI Director and QU Associate VP for Research Dr Darwish Al-Emadi, QU Associate VP for Facilities and Information Technology Dr Khaled Naji, QU Capital Projects Department Director Eng Khaled Halabi, as well as members from QU Capital Projects Department, managers from QU Campus Facilities Department, and several officials from QU and QR.

It aims to provide mechanisms for cooperation, coordination, communication and exchange of information between both QU and QR, and any third party. Both institutions will establish and agree on work content, program and sequencing, as well as the identification and resolution of issues necessary for the execution and completion of QR activities and other works. In the terms of the agreement, both institutions will form a Joint Working Group to manage and organize the processes and procedures and coordinate with other relevant parties and working groups, such as interface meetings with stakeholders, among others. The Group will also address all matters necessary to facilitate the objectives of QRDP and QU Master Plan 2030 Legacy vision.

Commenting on the agreement, Prof Al-Misnad said: “We are pleased to cooperate with Qatar Rail in the spirit of cooperation between academic and industrial sectors, and the commitment of both to serve the wider community through various services. This agreement will enhance our efforts to support national development activities as well as the aspirations of the society as the country prepares itself for hosting FIFA World Cup 2022 and other top international events.”

Eng Al Muhannadi said: “Providing convenient methods of transportation for students on campus comes as part of Qatar Rail’s vision that aims to equip the country’s main university grounds and public hubs with the latest techniques and technologies for a smooth, quick, and green model of transport”, adding, “Close communication with our partners and contractors is very important to Qatar Rail in order to complete our projects on time and without complications. We are very glad to be cooperating with Qatar University, and hope this agreement opens doors for further cooperation between different sectors.”
