The Department of Arabic Language at Qatar University College of Arts and Sciences (QU-CAS) celebrated the International Poetry Day.

The event was attended by Qatari poet Hamad Al-Baridi, Egyptian poet Saad Musloh, and poets from CAS Department of Arabic Language -- Dr Mahmoud Kahil, Dr Abdul Salam Hamed, Dr Mustafa Bouanani and Dr Mahrous Brik -- as well as CAS faculty, students and staff.

The event featured the recitation of many poems and the screening of a short video titled “Poetry” produced by Assistant Professor at CAS Department of Arabic Language Dr Nassima Boussalah. CAS Arabic Language Department Head Dr Rashid Bouziane said: “The department organized this event on the occasion of the International Poetry Day, which was approved by UNESCO and celebrated on March 21 each year. Since Arabic has been the main language of poetry throughout history, this event provides an opportunity to highlight Nabataean and Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) poetry and to draw students’ attention to the importance of poetry.”
