The Accounting and Information Systems Department at Qatar University College of Business and Economics (QU-CBE) yesterday hosted the First Qatar University Accounting Forum, aimed to highlight the nature of the work of professional accountants and the career opportunities to those who wish to join the profession, and the ways to develop the capabilities and skills of accounting students in line with the requirements of the labor market. 

Organized in collaboration with QU Accounting Female Club, the forum brought together a large number of accounting experts from private and government institutions in Qatar to share their knowledge, expertise and experiences on issues related to the field of accounting. Attending the opening ceremony were QU Vice President for Administration and Financial Affairs Dr Khalid Bin Nasser Al-Khater, QU Associate Vice President for Academic Planning and Development Dr Nitham Hindi, and CBE Dean Dr Khalid Shams M A Al-Abdulqader, as well as CBE faculty and students.

The event’s program included two (2) sessions chaired by QU Head of Scientific Accounting Association Dr Ousama Abdulrahman Anam and Mazars Ahmed Rawfik & Co CPA Managing Partner Mr Mohamed Tawfiq Nasim. It also included presentations delivered by Dr Khalid Bin Nasser Al-Khater, Assistant to the President of the Supervision of Projects and Contracts at the State of Qatar Audit Bureau Mr Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Director of Human Resources at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs Mr Abdulaziz Hassan, Head of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Qatar Mr Mohammed Zubaidi Bashir Al Abdullah, Deloitte-Qatar Managing Partner Mr Samer Jaghoub, and Vice President of the Institute of Internal Auditors-Qatar Branch Prof Fahd bin Hussein Al Marri.

They presented on a wide range of issues such as “History of Accounting in the State of Qatar”, “The Future of the State Audit Bureau-Qatar and the Need for Qatari Specialties”, “Career Opportunities for Accountants in the State of Qatar”, “The Role of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Qatar in Developing the Profession in Qatar”, “The Future of Qatari Competencies in the Global Accounting Firms”, and “The Future of the Institute of Internal Auditors-Qatar Branch in the State of Qatar and its Role in Supporting and Developing National Competencies”.

Commenting on the event, Dr Khalid Shams M A Al-Abdulqader said: “We, at CBE, are honored to organize the First Qatar University Forum which aims to bring together accounting students who are also members of accounting clubs in the GCC. This forum provides CBE students with a platform to network and exchange their ideas with their counterparts in the GCC. It also aligns with our commitment to offer our students practical education, which contributes to enhancing their skills and knowledge in the field of accounting.” Head of CBE Accounting and Information Systems Department Prof Mostafa Kamal Hassan said: “The department welcomes accounting student clubs from University of Kuwait and University of Bahrain. This interaction between accounting professionals and students will lead to the improvement of accounting practices.”

Head of QU Accounting Female Club student Refaa Al-Qahtani said: “The QU Accounting Female Club has the mission to promote and support the field of accounting as a specialty and a profession with the aim to ensure the academic and professional development of accountants. To realize this mission, the Club continues in its efforts to strengthen links with students, graduates and professionals in the State of Qatar. The Club is also committed to providing accounting students with opportunities to develop and foster their capabilities and skills in line with the requirements of the labor market in Qatar and the GCC.”
