QU Health- Qatar University hosted Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RSCI) in its campus to discuss opportunities of collaborations. RCSI is world leader in health education, training and research. They ranked in top 250 among world universities. RSCI delegation started their visit to Qatar with a tour in Aspire Zone, where they met leaders and responsible from Aspire Academy and Aspetar. They discussed mutual collaboration and expressed their admiration of the capabilities and facilities available.

QU Health, led by Dr. Egon Toft- Vice President for Medical and Health Sciences, Dr. Feras Alali- Director of Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. Asmaa Althani- Dean of College of Health Sciences, Dr. Mohammad Diab- Dean of College of Pharmacy, and the associate & assistant deans for the three colleges (College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy and College of Health Sciences) welcomed the delegation at Al- Bitar Building. RSCI delegation presented the education and research capabilities and outcome of Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, Schools of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, Physiotherapy, Nursing & Midwifery, Postgraduate Studies and the Institute of Leadership, in Ireland.

The visitors had the chance to meet leaders from QU Research and Graduate Studies Office, Dr. Mariam Al-Maadeed- Vice President for Research ‎and Graduate Studies Office, Dr. Aiman Erbad- Director of Research Planning and Development Department, Ahmed Elzatahry- Dean of Graduate Studies, and Dr. Abdelbary Elhissi- Manager of Research Excellence, Research Planning ‎and Development Department. They discussed mutual research interest and opportunities for Msc and Ph.D Dual or Joint Doctoral Degrees with RCSI.

Our Irish visitors were very keen to provide a presentation on “Cancer Genomics”, and meet people involved in Qatar Genome.  Dr. Asmaa Althani- Dean of College of Health Sciences led this session with a group of elite researchers from Biomedical Research Center. Also, Dr. Hamdi Mbarek- Scientific &Industry Partnerships Manager at Qatar Genome Program, who presented a general idea on Qatar Genome and its activities.

Our Professional Achievement Award winner- Dr. Alla El-Awaisi- Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, College of Pharmacy presented a summary on IPE program & the next ATBH conference in 2020 which will be hosted by QU Health. Sport Science department, led by Dr. Mahfoud Amara- Director of Sport Sciences Program, College of Arts and Sciences, hosted the delegation in their facility and accompanied them in a tour to their labs and to the new Sport Complex. We concluded our schedule for our visitors with a wrap up and exit meeting, in which our deans and the delegation exchanged trophies and gifts. That was an emphasis of the success and effectiveness of the visit as well as agree on an action items to facilitate cooperation between the two universities

Dr. Feras Alali- Director of Research and Graduate Studies, Vice President for Medical and Health Sciences Office- commented on this visit, and said “We cherish this opportunity to strengthen ties with a worthy partner and world leader in health education and research. We have agreed on several action plan items that will provide our graduate students with more options.” On the other hand, Prof Niamh Moran- Head of RCSI School of Postgraduate Studies- said, “We were delighted to meet with the QU academics to discuss potential synergies in the training and support of Postgraduate scholars. We were enormously impressed by their impressive facilities, their dedicated staff and by the range and scope of current research at QU and allied researchers”.
