Qatar University (QU) will hold its 2016 Annual Research Forum (QUARF ‘16) on May 3 under the patronage of Qatar Minister of Development Planning and Statistics H.E. Dr Saleh bin Mohammad Al-Nabit.

Themed “Academia and Industry Collaboration: Pathway to Innovation and Entrepreneurship”, this year’s event is an opportunity to showcase new research projects, demonstrate new tools, and report on the implementation of new programs and collaborative activities. It will bring together a large number of participants from local institutions including ExxonMobil Qatar, Qatar Aluminum (Qatalum), Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO), Qatar Shell, QDVC, RasGas, among others. It will also draw students across QU to meet and discuss with researchers and experts and share their knowledge and ideas on various research topics.

The program agenda will include three sessions presented by QU Chief Strategy and Development Officer Dr Darwish Al-Emadi, AVP for Research & Strategic Initiatives Dr Bhanu Chowdhary, and College of Arts & Sciences associate dean for Research & Graduate Studies Dr Mohamed Ahmedna. They will discuss issues related to “Establishing a vibrant partnership for fostering research driven-learning, discovery and entrepreneurship”, “Nurturing and cultivating collaboration for innovation & capacity building”, and “Hallmarks of QU-Industry Collaboration -- current and future”.

It will also include an exhibition featuring 7 booths by QU Biomedical Research Center (BRC), Center for Advanced Materials (CAM), Center for Sustainable Development (CSD), College of Engineering (CENG), Environmental Science Center (ESC), KINDI Lab for Computing Research (KINDI) and Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC). They will provide visitors with information on their latest research outcomes and their ongoing research projects.

Also on the program’s agenda, a distribution of awards for the winners in the categories of Best Poster Award, Research Excellence Award, and Graduate Studies Award. Commenting on the upcoming forum, QU president Dr Hassan Rashid Al-Derham said: “This annual event provides QU the opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to offering world-class education and research while also showing full commitment to realizing Qatar’s ambitions for a knowledge-based economy and building sustainable human capital and capability.”

QU VP for Research and Graduate Studies Prof Mariam Al-Maadeed said: “Our aim is to be a noted research and learning university and in this context, we have been recording breakthroughs in our research endeavors every year with the active collaboration and support of our industry partners. The success stories will be showcased at the forum.”
