Qatar University (QU) President Dr. Hassan Al Derham yesterday performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate QU’s new student dormitories.

The event was attended by QU VP for Administration and Financial Affairs Dr. Khalid Al-Khater, QU VP for Student Affairs Dr. Khalid Al-Khanji, QU Director of Capital Projects Eng. Ibrahim Al-Fakhroo, and Project Manager Eng. Hisham Bader, as well as QU officials and staff. The new dormitories include two compounds for male and female students. The compounds extend over 135,000 m2. Each compound can accommodate 450 students and includes 4 buildings comprising each 4 floors. The main building consists of two floors and a basement. It contains administrative offices, the main dining hall, the main kitchen, storage rooms, a classroom, a prayer room, a library, a gym, and a TV room.

The compounds also include 4 buildings with 112 apartments with one, two or three bedrooms; a gym extending over 3500 m2; squash, tennis, basketball and volleyball playgrounds; a multipurpose hall; a sports center; an internet room; a cafeteria; a supermarket; a main swimming pool, and children’s swimming pool and play areas. In his remarks, Dr. Hassan Al Derham said: “The new dormitories are designed in line with the best international standards and are equipped with the best facilities, services and entertaining activities. Through establishing the new dormitories, QU provides an optimal experience to its students whether they are from outside Qatar, residing in Qatar, or citizens who do not live in Doha.”
