Saturday night more than 200 sick children in Hamad Hospital were delighted to share in the ancient tradition of Garangao. More than 20 volunteers from RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) participated as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

During Garangao, a celebration marking the mid period of Ramadan, children wear colourful traditional costumes and skip through streets singing. As the sun sets and day turns to night they receive candies and nuts from generous families and neighbors.

"As a Qatari company, we believe it is our responsibility to support our neighbors. RasGas is happy to share this celebration with less fortunate children. In today's increasingly fast-paced multicultural society, traditions and folklore have become increasingly meaningful for children," said RasGas Supply Manager Mr. Abdulla al-Mahmoud.

The volunteers from RasGas' Management Services Group along with Hamad Hospital officials gave treats and gifts to the children and their families at the Hamad Medical Corporation Paediatric Unit. RasGas Corporate Social Responsibility programme has nominated 2011 as its Year of the Community, to raise awareness on the importance of being a good neighbor within the community both at corporate and personal level Community.
