As FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 fever grips Doha, which will host the next edition of the global soccer event in 2022, jerseys with names and pictures of favourite participating teams and soccer stars printed on them are selling like hotcakes in the city. Sports goods shops have announced attractive offers on various items, especially jerseys, and have also ensured to keep sufficient stocks of these in order to meet the increasing demand as the tournament progresses, according to market sources.

Besides, textile shops have stored enough fabric for making jerseys in the event of fast depletion of their stocks from the market. Speaking to Qatar Tribune, the manager of Sports Spot in Doha said,"We have special offer on bulk purchase of 11 to 22 pieces of jerseys. There is huge demand for jerseys of Argentina, Brazil and Germany. Even though the original ball of FIFA 2018 has not been launched yet in the market, football is also in great demand." According to him, local manufacturers have already launched the jerseys of Argentina and Brazil on public demand. He added that the costs of jerseys range from QR30 to QR250.

Meanwhile, leading sports accessories shops and hypermarkets have put their stocks related to football and World Cup on display and have announced special promotions on these items. It is noteworthy that organisations that buy jerseys in bulk for distribution among football fans normally prefer cheaper jerseys whereas individuals attending matches at fan zones prefer high quality and branded jerseys for long time use. "India is our key source of fabric for jerseys. There are many varieties of fabrics available in India. Besides, the strong trade network between India and Qatar helps maintain continuous flow of the material to Qatar's market," a local manufacturer of jerseys said.

Sales Executive of Innova Sports, a local firm that stitches jerseys for the local market, said:"We have received good number of orders from different expatriate organisations. Our jerseys are tailored to the needs of individual customers. Currently, the jersey with the picture of Lionel Messi printed on it is the most popular." There are also many takers for jerseys of Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo and Brazilian star Neymar da Silva.
