The Ras Laffan Community Outreach Program (RLIC-COP) has announced its Diamond Sponsorship of the Qatar CSR Report 2013, which has gained increasing importance in sustainable development as an indicator of the economic and social growth.

“RLIC-COP contributes to three strategic areas: Education, Health, Environment and Safety Awareness, and Social Development. By developing these key areas, RLIC-COP is able to contribute towards the long-term sustainability of the local community. RLIC-COP initiatives include the support and sponsorship of various national and social events in Qatar, such as Qatar National Day, National Sports day, Community Skills Development, road safety awareness campaigns, and others,” he added.

“The Ras Laffan Community Outreach Program was developed to generate a respectful, trust-based partnership between companies in Ras Laffan and the surrounding communities” said Moza Al Mohannadi, Community Liaison Lead of the Ras Laffan Community Outreach Program. “All the major RLIC companies who strongly believe in Corporate Social Responsibility are members of the Outreach Program, including Qatar Petroleum, Al Khaleej Gas, Dolphin Energy, ORYX GTL, QatarGas, RasGas and Pearl GTL. The program endeavors to benefit society through working with authorities and contributing to local programs that will in turn bring progress to region and create opportunities for youth through professional training that will equip them for employment.”

Mr. Khalifa Al-Mohannadi, the General Manger of Qatar CSR Network, the publishers of the report said, “The Report has focused on several aspects that RLIC-COP has addressed, which highlight Corporate Social Responsibility as a base to provide incentives and the appropriate environment to support and build the capacities of the Al-Shamal residents and its surrounding areas.  It also underscores the program’s accomplishments as a catalyst for achieving sustainability and prosperity for these communities.”

Qatar University is the strategic partner for the 2013 Report, and its gold sponsors for the second consecutive year are Ooredoo and ExxonMobil Qatar. Energy companies have also extended their support by providing silver sponsorship, such as Sasol, QAPCO, QAFCO, QAFAC and Shell. Bronze sponsors for this year are AlKhaliji Bank and Qatar International Islamic Bank. The Ras Laffan Community Outreach Program (COP) aims to build communication bridges based on trust and cooperation between the industrial companies located in the northern region of Qatar and the local community. It also serves to benefit the local community by working in partnership with public institutions in the area to promote local labor, and in turn create opportunities such as vocational training to prepare young people for the workforce.

The program supports several cultural, educational, health, environmental, security and safety initiatives, and provides direct support for local programs in cooperation with community cultural centers, youth centers, and women's associations. The COP is comprised of a consortium of industrial companies located in the northern region, including Qatar Petroleum, Al Khaleej Gas, RasGas, Qatargas, Dolphin Energy Limited, Pearl GTL and Oryx GTL; which collectively support the areas of Smaismah, Al Daayen, Um Qarn, Al Khor, Al Dhakira, Al Kaaban, Al Ghariyah, Al Ghuwairiya, Madinat Al Shamal, Al Ruwais, Abu AzZuluf and Fuwayrit.

The COP supports a number of programs in these areas, including a road safety program, in addition to organizing annual national celebrations and sports events. Qatar CSR network is the first social-responsibility web portal in Qatar. The portal was officially launched on 16 May, 2007, and has steadily grown to offer more leading initiatives.
