The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), will unveil the achievements of the first year of its ‘Screen for Life’ program at the Arab Health Exhibition and Congress, being held in Dubai from January 30 to February 2, and its ongoing efforts to raise awareness of breast and bowel cancer in Qatar.

During the event, Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha, Cancer Program Manager at PHCC will address the audience and give a presentation about the program, its aims and results for the past 12 months. In addition, Dr. Shaikha will also outline future plans for the program to reach out to as many people in Qatar as possible and keep the spotlight on cancer awareness. Commenting on the program participation, Dr. Shaikha said: “Having a healthy population, whose wellness is enhanced through an accessible, effective and safe healthcare system, is crucial to the future of Qatar.”

The ‘Screen for Life’  program, to address rising cases of breast and bowel cancer, was designed to influence behavior from every angle – from patient education to physician education through to knowledge within the media to get the message out.” During its first year, ‘Screen for Life’ offered breast cancer screening to women aged 45-69, the age bracket of those most at risk, while bowel cancer screening was offered to male and female 50-74. Plans for the second year of the campaign and beyond include a strategy to further expand the outreach. There will be additional milestones met and exceeded, in addition to initiatives and awareness activities both led by the  program and in partnership with entities across Qatar.

Participation in regional and international events such Arab Health Exhibition and Congress highlights the efforts of Qatar, through the PHCC, is taking to ensure a healthy population, and its desire to showcase the ‘Screen for Life’ program as a key driver in its goal.
