The French Transport Minister HE Frédéric Cuvillier, accompanied by the French Foreign Trade Minister HE Nicole Bricq, visited the construction sites of the Light Rail Transport (LRT) Project in the city of Lusail, where they were welcomed by Qatar Rail’s Chief Executive Officer Eng. Saad Al Muhannadi, who briefed the French delegations on the ongoing progress of the project.

While the French delegations expressed their admiration on the project's workflow in Lusail, Al Muhannadi said that the lightrail transport project in the city is central to the transportation infrastructure in Qatar, "It is one of the most important real estate development projects”. “The Lusail project is already in very advanced stages with almost 100 per cent of the tunneling phase completed, while work at the stations of the project have already reached 50 per cent”, added Al Muhannadi. The light rail transport project at Lusail is on schedule, and will be completed and handed over by the year 2016, Al Muhannadi mentioned.

Qatar Rail signed a contract with QDVC on February 2012 with a value of 1.950 Billion Qatari Riyals. The contract includes the engineering works in seven underground metro stations, the creation of a bridge over the highway between the city of Doha and the Northern Area of the country, and the preliminary work for the establishment of a special warehouse for Lusail rail as well as other maintenance workshops.
