The Sidra Medical and Research Center National Development Team recently organized a dedicated Open Day at Qatar University (QU) Female College of Arts & Sciences building. The Open day was hosted to inspire students to pursue careers in science and medicine by offering support through scholarship and training initiatives. Encouraging QU students to choose a career in science and medicine was also the focus of a keynote presentation by Sidra’s Acting Chief Medical Officer Prof. Ziyad Hijazi. Prof. Hijazi shared his personal journey about discovering his passion for medicine with QU pharmacy and biomedical students.
“Having been born and raised in Jordan, I feel fortunate to now have the chance to come back to the region and inspire future generations of medical professionals and scientists about careers in medicine. Thanks to Qatar’s vision to promote healthcare education, students today have access to the best learning facilities, educational specialists and mentorship programs. I am pleased to be able to be here to talk about Sidra and our specialty services and hope to see more home-grown health professionals joining the industry,” said Prof. Hijazi.
The Open Day at QU follows in the wake of the successful Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between QU and Sidra last week - key elements of which are training, educational initiatives, exchange programs and student sponsorships. “Our goal is making Sidra the obvious choice for medical education and careers for future graduates from QU’s recently announced Medical College, as well as from universities throughout the region. We are excited to see such swift progress on the recent MoU signed between QU and Sidra and look forward to further developing opportunities for career advancement of QU students,” said Dr. Eiman Al Ansari, Director of National Development at Sidra.
Sidra’s Scholarship team was also on hand at the Open Day to answer questions and receive applications from students for scholarship opportunities at a dedicated information booth. “Close cooperation between academic institutions in Qatar is building a robust landscape for growing talent in our country and creating ample opportunities for students to learn from and practice with some of the best medical professionals and scientists in the the world. We are proud to work closely with institutions like Sidra to ensure our students have access to the best career opportunities,” said Dr. Ayman El-Kadi, Dean of College of Pharmacy at Qatar University.
