Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) jointly with the Supreme Education Council (SEC) and Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA) are preparing to launch the fifth Schools Olympic Program (SOP) 2011-2012 under the theme “Sport and Family” at Al-Sadd Sports Clubs on Thursday.

The SOP Executive Director, Mr. Khalid Mohamed S. M. Shandoor made a comprehensive evaluation about the program’s major progress over the  past  four years. Mr. Shandoor has affirmed that each year the program set new standards of excellence in terms of growing technical level, the number of participants and achievements.

The SOP Executive Director stressed on the importance of SOP in encouraging school students to practice sport in a daily manner and gain multiple sport skills and experience. Regarding the contribution of Qatar School Sports Association (QSSA) in SOP, Mr. Shandoor has affirmed that SSFA officials now are under training, exerting efforts to play a significant role in boosting SOP movement in the future.


In his view towards the fifth edition’s theme, Mr. Shandoor highlighted the strong relation between sports and family, he confirmed that family plays a pioneering role in community and has a direct affect on sport.

The  Fifth SOP Theme mainly aims to deepening the bilateral relationship that links the family and sport throughout the sport competitions and accompanying events.

SOP is a pioneer idea that came in response to the prestigious initiative of HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Heir Apparent and President of QOC in an attempt to link sports activities with others, beside encouraging school students to practice sport as an integral part of their daily life.
