As the region’s cashless payment sector experiences rapid growth, the upcoming Prepaid Summit Middle East 2015 looks to award and recognise industry players who have made significant contribution to its development. The Summit now in its sixth year, is set to take place on March 18 at the Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi gathering more than 150 global and regional industry players.

Visa is on-board as the event sponsor, and also putting weight behind the third Annual Prepaid Middle East Awards. In line with the growth of the burgeoning sector, this year’s categories have more than doubled in numbers to feature over 10 awards, attracting the interest of more than 44 nominations locally and regionally. Local retail companies such as Majid al Futtaim Finance have been nominated in six categories including Product Innovation, Marketing, Incentives and Corporate/Government Programme. Meanwhile Etihad Airways and Emirates Islamic Bank vie for the Open Loop Gift Incentive Award.

Kuwait looks to have seven nominations in over five categories with entries from Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait, Kuwait Finance house and Commercial Bank of Kuwait. According to Douglas Blakey, Group Editor for Consumer Finance at the event organiser’s, Timetric Financial Services, this year’s Award categories have attracted contenders from Jordan, Lebanon, Pakistan, Qatar, Algeria, Cameroon and Burkina Faso in Africa, as well as the UAE.

The result is the sector is growing and evolving. Indeed, we are witnessing an era of sea change which can fuel the sector to even greater heights.” He said that the awards represent current and emerging trends as new categories include the Prepaid Mobile App, the Prepaid Wallet and Marketing campaigns, including the best use of segmentation.

“The Prepaid landscape has spurred on a new customer profile and this means that marketers and solutions providers must look to answer to this growing demand. The award ceremony looks to recognise such efforts and ideas which are instrumental to the sector,” Blakey concluded.
