With only weeks left until the big day, the [email protected] team is working overtime to make sure this year’s November 17th event lets Qatar’s youth tell their stories.

Securing a venue, bringing on important and like-minded sponsors, and finalizing a line-up of some of the finest undiscovered speakers in the country have all been priorities for the team over the past few weeks.

The newly-confirmed venue, Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar -VCUQatar- is perfect for the needs of the [email protected] says Co-curator of [email protected], Uzair Mohammad: “TEDx is about sharing ideas worth spreading within our community, and it is normally people who think outside the box that come up with such ideas. We are delighted to be hosting [email protected] at VCUQatar this year as it is the home to so many creative minds. Our own team features almost twenty students from VCUQatar, working as part our graphic design, stage design, and attendee experience teams.”

On November 17, the VCUQatar atrium will play host to an audience of 500 people, all wanting to hear talks around this year’s theme – #failbetter.

VCUQatar’s Dean, Allyson Vanstone, added: “Since its establishment, VCUQatar has served as an important educational and cultural focal point for the community, and being the venue host for the second [email protected] event is just one example of this commitment. As artists and designers, VCUQatar is a community committed to generating ideas and pushing the boundaries of intellectual thought. Similarly, [email protected] is an incredible platform for Qatar’s youth to inspire each other by addressing issues that are important to them.

“Events like this are empowering and transformative university experiences for our students as well – we are lucky to be able to see the world through the eyes of tomorrow’s young leaders. We hope our collaboration with [email protected] continues to foster such creative development and we congratulate the organizers for making this happen.”

[email protected] is still accepting registrations for audience members via  www.TEDxYouthDoha.com, with just weeks to go until the event.  More than 500 youth are expected to attend what is fast becoming the nation’s premier youth event.

Speaking slots are eagerly being contested this year too. Jaimee Haddad, Project Co-ordinator for the [email protected] Speaker Curation Committee said: “We were excited by the people who auditioned to be speakers this year. This year we invited 15 people to try out for a spot and an additional 53 people came to the open auditions. We had to book auditions on the second day of Eid Al Adha, too. The quality of speakers and their subject matter has been amazing.”

Uzair Mohammad reflected on the previous five months of work and had nothing but praise for his team, which is still working hard towards the November 17th event.

“Our team is full of volunteers – talented youth that do a lot of other things in life including handling full course loads at school. Yet, they lend their time to organize [email protected] for other youth in their community. Amidst all the excitement being generated by the event, I am most proud of the team that we have put together, and their amazing work till now.”

[email protected] opens its doors on Saturday, November 17 at VCUQatar at 12:30pm. A live stream of the event will be broadcast on the web. For more information, visit www.TEDxYouthDoha.com, or follow the proceedings via @TEDxYouthDoha or #TEDxYD.
