Top international musical bands will perform at the Qatar’s first music festival which will be held at the InterContinental Doha Hotel Beachfront on April 14 and 15. The event, which is named ‘The Big Day Out’, will feature American rock band Hoobastank, British band Toploader ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’, British reggae group Aswad ‘Shine’, Romanian dance-pop Akcent, and Lebanese rock band Mashrou3 Leila, among others.

Hoobastank is known for its 2004 hit The Reason. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Jared McCulloch of Global DJs said the music festival is being to meet the aspiration of all music lovers in Qatar. “This will be the biggest live music event to take place in Qatar in terms of talents and logistics involved. We will feature talents from multi-genre including Arabian star, Mashrou3 Leila. This will also be an opportunity for local performers in Doha to showcase their talents to a wider audience. ‘The Big Day Out’ is a partnership of five companies, including Vodafone, InterCon, Argon Global and ILoveQatar. Our main goal is to attract as much audience to the music fest which we hope to develop into a regular event in Doha,” Jared said.

The first day of the festival will be a family day with performance by Toploader and Akcent as well as some local talents. Tickets will be priced at QR200 while entry for children under age 12 will be free. Besides the live performance, children will participate in fun activities like face painting and magic shows. The second day will feature the complete line-up of other musicians to be led by Hoobastank. Hoobastank has sold 10 million albums worldwide. Other performers to rock Doha on the occasion include Tarek Sidani, United Rhythm Band, The Exiles, Green Color Thing, Trak, Cronkite Satellite, Keyali Mayaga and Lorelie Loveridge. Tickets will be at QR250. According to the organisers, about 6000 people are expected to attend on each day.

“ILoveQatar has about 14,000 to 15000 fans and we have been receiving positive feedback from them on this event even before this official announcement,” said CEO of ILoveQatar Bassam al Ibrahim. “We want to provide good entertainment for the people of Qatar. That is why we are opting for a fun-filled event. We are proud to be part of this initiative,” said InterCon General Manager Hafidh al Busaidy. Michael Portz of Vodafone and Abdul Gafoor, CEO of Argon Global expressed happiness for taking part in the event.
