Next revisits its heritage with this AW17 New Season, unveiling a collection of traditional pieces with a fresh modern twist.

Taking inspiration from decades gone by, classic styles are reinvented with a tailored approach like those seen on the catwalk. Featuring masculine 90s shapes as well as more fluid ladylike silhouettes, pronounced shoulder blazers, boxy jackets, wide leg trousers and tailored shift dresses – all contributing to an essential work wear wardrobe, which Next do so well.

Prints are key this season with feminine florals and ruffles on pretty blouses and fluted dresses enhancing the female shape. Checks also make a huge comeback with modern tartan, plaid and dogtooth placed on separates and outerwear in a palette of greys, blacks, red and camel. Clashing textures continue to reign on knitwear which has been reworked in every way imaginable. Styles vary from ribbed sweaters, cable knit jumpers, asymmetric cardigans and dresses in lightweight and chunky knits. Texture and shape is a must across all clothing and accessories with an emphasis on detail, premium fabrics and designs throughout.

This autumn, menswear encapsulates the 70s revival - mixing elements of sartorial tradition with casual retro pieces resulting in a fresh new update. Tailoring is a real focus for AW17 with a rich color palette of dark and dusky shades of rust, tobacco, mustard and teal. Slim suits are cut neat to the body with shorter length jackets and skinny fit trousers, paired with mismatched print shirts in liberty floral and check. Outerwear, takes a different path with traditional wool styles such as the Pea Coat, Epsom and Refer in belted textured fabrics.

Casualwear opts for a simple yet cool vibe, championing the 90s vintage Athleisure trend combining raw, relaxed denim with essential tees, roll neck sweaters and sporty knits. Relaxed suiting has a deconstructed feel with casual drawstring trousers in cotton mix twill paired with retro jackets. Not forgetting footwear, shoes complete an outfit through classic designs with a modern twist. Padded collars, borg lining, cleated soles, speed lacing and d-rings are finishing touches that update the original high-top styles.
