To mark International Safer Internet Day that takes place annually on the 7th of February, Vodafone held a Connected Families workshop at Doha College that comes as part of Vodafone’s AmanTECH online safety programme.

Connected Families workshops are short events that use fun and informative activity stations to explore important topics like cyberbullying, online gaming and different approaches to digital parenting. The events provide a great opportunity for parents to come together to ask questions, share experiences, learn together and discover more about internet safety.

Each workshop runs for 2 hours with groups of parents rotating between the different stations engaging in interactive educational activities. Dana Haidan, Head of CSR at Vodafone Qatar said: “At Vodafone we aim to empower parents and to help them equip their children with the right tools and understanding to navigate the digital world safely and to take full advantage of its benefits. We are delighted with the response from Doha College’s parents to the Connected Families workshop and hope that they now have what they need to know and do for their children in today’s ever-expanding digital world.”

Hawa Mayat Head of Digital Learning at Doha College’s West Bay Campus said, “Doha College is committed to the global Safer Internet Day message: promoting the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology by today’s internet-savvy kids. Doha College’s Digital Learning Initiative is pioneering the use of iPads and technology in the classroom and at home to develop key digital skills for our students. This partnership with Vodafone ensures the promotion of online child safety among parents, creating an effective balance.”

In 2017, AmanTech will continue to reach out to parents and children aged between the ages of 5 to 17. The programme will adopt a three-pronged approach with a focus on awareness, education and technical support. This will entail ongoing school parental workshops, an online source for information and tips for parents [www.vodafone.qa/AmanTECH], online magazines, in addition to digital parenting guide available online.
