Vodafone Qatar has increased revenues to QR 934.9 Million (159% ) and expanded its services to 45% of the population which actively uses its telecom services, a senior executive said here Wednesday.

Announcing the company's financial results for the year ended March 31, 2011, Vodafone Qatar Acting Chief Executive Officer John Tombleson said, "We have increased the average spend per customer, increased revenues to QR 935 million, and crossed into EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation) profitability in the last six months." We are very pleased with our performance this year. We have gained a solid customer base with 45% of the population actively using our services every month, he said.

Qatar's second telecom operator with market capital of QAR 6,518,034,000 (as of March 31) reported 63% growth over last year to expand its mobile phone customers to 756,767 and mobile users market share increased to 27% as of March 31. The fourth quarter revenue market share of the company with authorized capital of QAR 8,454,000,000 closed at 22.9% and the average revenue per user (ARPU) increased 14% over the year to reach QR 115 for the quarter ended 31 March. The company's EBITDA improved 88% on last year with loss before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) for the full financial year ending at QR (27.1) million.

The company reported QR 4.8 million EBITDA profitability that was achieved in the last six-month period ended March 31. "We plan to increase our network by 25% in the year ahead and offer a full range of products and services to all segments in Qatar," said Tombleson who was asked to handle the company's top job following the demise last year of Grahame Maher who was instrumental in shaping Vodafone Qatar as its CEO. We plan to extend our postpay service from businesses to consumers, introduce number portability, and work with the Qatar National Broadband Network to bring fibre to the home, he added.
