DOHA QATAR Fuel (Woqod) is planning to open 12 more service stations next year.

Talking to Qatar Tribune after opening the new service station in West Bay on Sunday, Woqod Vice- Chairman and Managing Director Mohammed Turki al Sobai said, “The planned service stations are currently under construction.

They are located mainly on the highways in Doha, Al Shamal, West Bay, Salwa Road and Messaieed.

All these upcoming petrol stations will be opened next year.” A number of Woqod board members and employees were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the function, Al Sobai said, “We are very happy to open Woqod’s third petrol station this year.

The station located in the West Bay will provide services to the towers and residential compounds in the area.

Despite the fact that this station is smaller in size compared to other Woqod stations, it offers its customers a wide range of diesel and gasoline products.

The Sidra convenience store at the new service station will provide customers with the essential food supply.

The station will also distribute the Shafaf gas cylinders, in addition to other utility services.” Speaking about the new Shafaf gas cylinders which were recently introduced in Qatar earlier this year, Al Sobai said, “The response of the public to the gas cylinders has been extremely positive.

But as we have seen from other countries’ experience, this kind of business initiative takes time to become popular among the consumers.

We’re planning to phase out the old LPG gas cylinders within five years.

Sooner or later people will have to switch over to Shafaf gas cylinders as they are much better and safer.

It’s slightly more expensive in the beginning, but it’s a long term investment.” He said that Woqod has opened about 50 small retail distribution centres for Shafaf in Qatar this year.

“We’re trying to make it more accessible for our customers.

By next year, we’re targeting to have about 100 Shafaf distribution centres in the country,” he added.
