The Aspire Zone Foundation’s (AZF) National Sport Day celebrations will kick-off on Tuesday featuring a wide range of sporting challenges and competitions for thousands of people. Both families and individuals are invited to spend a day full of fun, energy and movement in a distinctive national festival that promotes health and fitness.

Mr. Khalid Abdullah Al Sulaiteen, Aspire Zone Foundation CEO said: “Aspire Zone has become an icon of sport in the Middle East. Whenever sport is mentioned in any occasion, Aspire Zone comes to the mind immediately. This is primarily the case when it comes to the National Sport Day. Our beloved country designated this day to highlight the importance of sports and fitness. This day is a great chance for us at Aspire Zone to engage with the public on the ground and put our mission into action.”

“This year’s preparations come in line with Aspire Zone's mission to encourage our community to embrace a healthy lifestyle and engage in physical activity. We are contributing to the realization of Qatar’s National Vision which draws upon social and human development as major pillars in the development of Qatar and in reaching the progress that we all desire," added Mr. Al Sulaiteen. The AZF NSD Organising Committee is planning holding a variety of sporting and recreational activities to encourage families and individuals of all ages and various community categories to engage in physical activity. The Organising Committee will also be educating the participants about the benefits and importance of adopting a healthy life style and exercising physical activity.

Aspire Zone’s award-winning venues will be opening their doors to everyone to enjoy the various sporting and recreational activities and spend a day packed with exciting events that will draw thousands of families and residents. Aspire Zone and its member organizations Aspire Academy, ASPETAR, and Aspire LOGISTICS will be holding 12 exciting sporting events to encourage participants to exercise physical activity. This year's activities are originally the permanent programs offered by Aspire Zone throughout the year. The NSD marks an excellent opportunity to promote such sporting programs and encourage residents to take part in them.

1. Family Cycling in the Presence of HE Minister of Youth and Sport

Families of up to four members can now come together to enjoy riding one bike thanks to Aspire Zone’s new “Family Cycling” scheme which offers four-seat and two-seat bikes. The scheme will be launched on Tuesday 10 a.m. by HE Minister of Youth and Sport Mr. Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser Al Ali and Aspire Zone Foundation CEO Mr. Khalid Abdullah Al Sulaiteen. Family bikes will be dedicated a specific path around the lake on the National Sport Day. Following the end of the celebrations, families can ride their bikes on the usual bikeways.

2. Fun Run

Organized by Aspire LOGISTICS, the Fun Run is one of Aspire Zone’ most prominent festivities of the day. The 3km race will kick-off at Khalifa International Stadium and run around Aspire Zone’s venues. Registration for the race was open on Aspire Zone’s website “Life in Aspire” for everyone. The race saw a very high turnout last year as the number of participants amounted to more than 2,000 persons. The race will start at 9 a.m. at the track located near the VIP entrance of Khalifa International Stadium.

3. Bright & Energetic Morning for Men and Women With Aspire Active’s Instructors

Ladies and girls, members of Aspire Active, the most popular sporting initiative in Qatar, will have a morning full of activity and energy thanks to the unique workouts and exercises offered by Aspire Active’s elite instructors. Special fitness sessions will be held by Aspire Active's instructors on the occasion of the National Sport Day. Women’s activities will start at 8:45 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m. Men’s activities will take place at Aspire Active’s entrance from 9 am to 1 pm.

4. Synchronized Swimming for the First Time in Doha for Girls Less than 16 Years of Age

Aspire Zone extends an exceptional invitation this year to girls who love swimming to live an exciting, untraditional experience in the water. This year Aspire Zone introduces synchronized swimming for the first time in Doha on the occasion of the National Sport Day. There will be two sessions open to girls, one at 9 am to girls aged 8-11 years and the other at 3 p.m. to girls aged 12-16 years. The two sessions will be held at Aspire Dome swimming pool.

5. Beach Soccer

Beach Soccer has recently gained popularity in Qatar, especially after the many world competitions hosted by Qatar. This is why Aspire Zone will be organizing a beach soccer tournament at the sand pitch near pitch no. 6. Six to eight teams of five players will take part in the tournament, all males over 16 years of age. Teams willing to participate can go to the pitch and register. The first match will kick-off and the winning team will continue to play. Souvenirs will b given to all participants.

6. The 5000-Step Journey

In line with its “Step into Health” initiative, Aspire Zone invites all families to take part in its "5000-Step Journey" activity which will start at 1 p.m. at the Torch Hotel and end at Aspire Dome. The journey will go through 12 different points across Aspire Zone where participants will be given information and tips about health, proper nutrition and physical activity.

7. Family Competitions Involving Parents and Children

Aspire Academy will be holding a variety of family activities not limited to football competitions between fathers and sons. There will be other special activities involving fathers and sons and mothers and daughters, including gymnastics competitions and racquet sports. Competitions involving mothers and daughter will take place at the gymnastics hall and MS3 while competitions involving fathers and sons will take place at the Squash hall and MS1. The activities run from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. 

8. Break Your Records

Aspire Academy continues to please the public with more exciting sporting activities that challenge their potentials and test their skills and capabilities. On the athletics track, at 10 a.m., the Sports Science Department at Aspire Zone will be giving the public the chance to explore their physical potentials through a series of exercises designed to measure players’ performance. The exercises will bring family members and friends together and will include running, jumping and throwing.

The Football Performance and Science Department will organize a number of football exercises from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the indoor football pitch for males and females over the age of 12 years. Using advanced technologies, the exercises will assess the participants’ physical and technical skills. The challenges will feature several exercises covering shooting accuracy, speed and fitness. 

10. Various Movement Activities for Young Children

Sport has never been about physical abilities and technical skills alone. Sport is also a social activity that draws upon noble human values. In order to consolidate such values, the Education and Student Care Department will organize a program of four different games for young children under the supervision of experts from the Challenge, Fun and Concentration Skills Development Program. The program will also feature a wall climbing activity that will be supervised by specialized experts and coaches.

The activity will start at 8 a.m. and will continue till 3:30 p.m. in the open green area near pitch no. 5.

11. Football Games for Boys

The Football Department at Aspire Academy will hold a football tournament for boys born in 2003-2007. The tournament will take place from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. at Aspire Academy’s outdoor pitches no. 3, 4 and 5.

Activities by 24 Government and Private Organizations

Aspire Zone’s venues are an ideal destination for National Sport Day activities. That led more than 24 government bodies and private organizations to choose to hold their sporting activities at Aspire Zone’s world-class venues to give their employees the chance to enjoy Aspire Zone’s sophisticated sports equipment and wide pitches.

Fourteen organizations will be opening their activities to the public: Lekhwiya, Maersk Oil, Action on Diabetes, Al-Ta’adhod Group’s GREE Air Conditioner, Qatar Cycling Federation, Qatar Development Bank, Al Noor Institute for the Visually Impaired, Ministry of Energy and Industry, the Qatar Women's Sport Committee, Qatar Football Association, Sidra Medical and Research Center, the Social and Culture Center for the Disabled, Sports Corner, and Abdullah Abdulghani& Bros. Co.

Other 10 organization will organize their activities to their staff’ families only: Qatar Petroleum, RasGas, Qatar Exchange, National Human Rights Committee, Hemaya Security Services Company, Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company (Muntajat), ORYX GTL, Msheireb Properties, the Supreme Council of Health and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy.
