Wyndham Grand Regency Doha , a five-star, 246-room hotel located in Qatar’s business centre, won the eleventh annual Premier Cricket League Qatar - Inter Hotel Championship 2014, held at Qatar Veterans Cricket Grounds in Lusail, 29th March to 19th April.

Wyndham Grand Regency Doha won the prestigious tournament for the second time in a row in addition to hosting the event this year. The annual cricket event is organized to promote the spirit of sportsmanship among Qatar’s hotel fraternity by offering their star cricketers a platform to exhibit their skills. This year’s tournament had a record number of participants; a total of 23 hotels competed for the trophy, eight of which were new to the league. The final match was played between Wyndham Grand Regency Doha and the Renaissance Hotel, with Wyndham Grand Regency Doha winning the championship by a mere 4 runs.

“It was an honor to organize an event that promotes teambuilding with our neighboring hotel community while incorporating a bit of friendly competition,” said Chander Raina, captain of the Wyndham Grand Regency Doha team. “I thank all team players and supporters. This win, our second championship in a row, was indeed an achievement.” Congratulating the team players, Ayman Lotfy, general manager of the Wyndham Grand Regency Doha said, “It is wonderful to see what a strong, passionate community we have. I am proud of our team and wish them good luck for future games.”

Branded this year as “Premier Cricket League Qatar - Inter Hotel Championship 2014,” the event was given a fresh identity with a vibrant new logo. Also introduced this year was the ‘Player Profiles’ brochure, showcasing the participating team players and their specialties. The tournament also introduced an exclusive mobile application called PCL this year, which allowed for fans to keep track of the tournament in real time. A special highlight during the matches was a custom-designed toss coin with the league logo, also introduced this year.

The grand closing ceremony incorporated several awards, including  MVP - Player of the Tournament (red cap), which was won by Heshan Sameera of Wyndham Grand Regency Doha for the second consecutive time, the Best Batsman (orange cap), received by Suranga Gunarathna from Renaissance Hotel and the Best Bowler (purple cap), which was awarded to Wyndham Grand Regency Doha’s Mohamad Shifan. Additional awards included the Fair Play trophy, won by The Torch hotel for the second year in a row, and a new Best-Dressed Squad award, won by first-time participants Doha Golf Club.

Participants also received prizes including trophies and LED televisions. The event was sponsored by 28 Black, Acqua Boutique, Al Tandeel Information Technology, Aljabor Business Systems, Network Solutions, Alofog-Maneo, Royal Hospitality and Empire Advertising, who was also responsible for the event branding and communication.
