The Career Development departments at Bedaya Center, a joint initiative by Qatar Development Bank and Silatech, recently organized the second version of the successful “Volunteer for a better Job” event. This was held in collaboration with five inspiring people from the volunteering sector at Hilton Hotel Doha.

The event highlighted the importance of voluntary work and motivated attendees to participate in many such activities. Moreover, it focused on demonstrating how volunteering could transform into an actual job if one were to volunteer for diverse local events, representing diverse sectors. Four eminent speakers from the volunteering sector and human resources field who addressed the attendees included Fatma Al Taweel from Tomoh initiative, Aisha Jassim Al-Kuwari, Chairman of Qatar Center for Voluntary Activities, Dr. Ahmed Taha, Human Resources expert and Mohamed Shaheen, HR training specialist at Qatar University.

The event highlighted several skills that can be acquired by a volunteer during an event or exhibition, which in turn could enhance his communication capabilities. This is also considered an important asset for building new connections as well as an attractive CV - one that will provide future job opportunities.

On this occasion, Reem Al-Suwaidi, General Manager of Bedaya Center, said: "Volunteering activity is one of the most important opportunities that can showcase the inner leadership skills that exist within every individual, besides enhancing and developing those skills. It is also a great platform for job seekers to attract enterprises and business owners. Moreover, volunteer work plays a major role in enhancing self-confidence and the feeling of happiness generated from helping others have an impact in terms of enlarging his social network. This will also increase the volunteer's chances of finding his future job.”

“I would like to thank our inspirational guests who spared their time and took efforts to explain to our youth the real message underlying volunteering activity and how it might be of great help for them and help choose their career path,” she added.

Ola Abdin, Career Development Manager at Bedaya Center said: "The volunteer work is one of the best social phenomena that reflect the finest civilized human behaviour, and inherent many social benefits that aim to promote cooperation between team members. This will contribute to the development of the capabilities of volunteers and prepare them to choose the right job in the future."

Speaking on the occasion, Aisha Jassim Al-Kuwari, Chairman of Qatar Center for Voluntary Activities commented, “We are delighted to participate in this initiative especially for what it represents in supporting our youth and to make them fully aware of the importance of volunteering and its positive impact on their careers. During the event, I shared with the audience my personal experience in the field of volunteering which stretches backto over two decades and its impact on both my personal and working lives. I look forward to participate and collaborate more often in such initiatives with Bedaya Center which is sparing no efforts in supporting our youth and providing guidance for them“
