Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (Bedaya Center), a joint initiative by Qatar Development Bank and Silatech, concluded the first week of its month- long “Career Awareness Campaign,” which will last till the end of October 2017.

The “Career Awareness Campaign” is one of the initiatives of Bedaya’s Career Development department aimed at raising awareness of among all segments of the Qatari society about the importance of career development through various activities carried out by the Center during the month of October. The campaign is divided into several main criteria such as “know yourself”, “explore your career options”, “Act on Your Decision”, “Take a Decision”, and finally “evaluate your decision”.

The campaign also features a creative video competition among participants aimed at showcasing diverse careers and tasks that have a positive impact on the local economy, which will be displayed at the end of the campaign and will be presented to HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar. The objective of the campaign is to spread awareness about the concept of career development, inspire target audience from students and all segments of the local society into discovering various careers in Qatar. Furthermore, the campaign informs parents about their role and their influence on their children’s future careers, and thereby gives opportunity to the children to try different career tasks.

On this occasion, Reem Al-Suwaidi, General Manager of Bedaya Center, said, “Our constant efforts to involve  the younger generations comes within the framework of Qatar’s human capital development, which is a key pillar in the development of the national economy. The “Career Awareness Campaign” is a step forward in helping students and the different sectors of the local community to take the right career calls that match with their personalities and expectations. We seek to enrich the Qatari labour market with promising youth capable of taking responsibility and raising the flag of our country especially in light of the unjust siege on our beloved country.”

Khalid Al Meresy, The campaign organizer from Bedaya Center said, “We achieved great success with the career awareness campaign we organized last year, as it helped the audience meet key people from different sectors from the local market. The previous edition of the campaign facilitated participants develops their skills, knowledge and experience, and develop a clear understanding of values, norms and standards adopted by the institutions and companies in the country. The youth also had the chance to get to know closely people who had a unique experience in various fields and achieved impressive successes until they reached what they are now”. “Through this year’s Career Awareness Campaign, we will further support Bedaya’s efforts to provide the right tools for career choices that are aligned with the needs of the Qatari labour market” she added.

The career awareness week aims to shed the light on the possibility of creating a generation of young people capable of investing in their abilities and talents to effectively serve the community through attending workshops and training sessions attended by top names in various sectors in the country to contribute towards the concept of career development and to raise awareness about the importance of understanding the required skills in the local market, the recruitment procedures, the needed talents for every Job. It helps students and encourages them to take the right decision in shifting from academic life to the real work environment.

The first week of the campaign, held under the topic “know yourself” witnessed a huge turnout during the morning session and was conducted in schools.  The afternoon session was opened for public and was held in several shopping malls across Doha to create a distinctive atmosphere offering a unique and enjoyable experience for the audience to discover themselves. This week (the second week) will focus on raising awareness on the importance of exploring career options and will include sessions with motivational speakers visiting public and private schools and a seminar for parents entitled "The Right Career Path".

The third week of the campaign scheduled to take place from 22 till 26 October will witness Career Development workshops. The workshops are designed to help the audience understand how to properly make professional decisions and how to implement them. The last week will witness a seminar on the needs of the local economy due to the unjust blockade imposed on the country and the Qatar National Vision 2030. It will also have the closing ceremony and presentation for the results of the video competition.

During the campaign, Bedaya Center has successfully attracted experts from education, health, media, engineering, aviation, arts, communications, sports and business due to the increase demand for these sectors and the speakers tackled numerous topics. Through the career awareness week, Bedaya strives to attract experts from the field of education, health, press & media, engineering, aviation, arts, telecom, sports and other sectors as well. These professionals will share their expertise on several topics like, identifying career interests and self-awareness, how to acquire necessary qualifications and skills, how to attract key talents through interviews and tests, how to create a connection with universities and how to build the right and proper HR policies.
