The Cabinet at its weekly meeting held at Emiri Diwan on Wednesday approved the Ministry of Finance's proposal for curbing tax evasion. The Cabinet meeting was chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani. The proposal aims to adopt the international standards agreed by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on preventing the corrosion of taxes and transfer of profits.

The international standards seek to combat tax avoidance on the part of multinational entities. The Cabinet also ratified eight agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoU), including seven between Qatar and the Republic of Turkey. The ratified agreements between Qatar and Turkey include cooperation for legal assistance in criminal affairs, legal and judicial training, cooperation in tourism, cooperation between Qatar Central Bank (QCB) and Central Bank of Turkey; cooperation in food products' safety; cooperation between Qatar Media Corporation and Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) and cooperation in the field of humanitarian aid and assistance. 

The Cabinet also ratified an agreement on the suppression of visas for holders of diplomatic and special passports between the governments of Qatar and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The Cabinet also reviewed a report by the Qatar Financial Markets Authority's Complaints Committee for the first half of 2017, and took the appropriate measures. The report presented today included the number of complaints made to the Committee and the reasons for them, as well as the decision taken by the committee regarding those complaints. 

The Qatar Financial Markets Authority's Complaints Committee is responsible for giving a ruling on complaints made against the authority's decisions. It is chaired by a judge from the court of appeals. Its members are two judges from the court of appeals and two other members who have experience in the field of financial securities. Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Dr Hassan bin Lahdan al Hassan al Mohannadi read out the agenda and the decisions of the Cabinet meeting.
