Qatar Museums hosted an exclusive panel discussion featuring internationally acclaimed New York based Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang, alongside significant Chinese artists Wang Jianwei and Xu Bing, and the Director of the China National Arts Fund Center, Han Ziyong.

The distinguished panel discussion was chaired by Dr. Dina Bangdel, Associate Professor and Director of Art History at Virginia Commonwealth University-Qatar in Doha. The talk was attended by Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Chairperson, Qatar Museums, and Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud, Chief Executive Officer, Qatar Museums, as well as delegates from the New York Times Art for Tomorrow conference and members of the public.

The discussion coincided with the opening of ‘What About the Art? Contemporary Art from China’, an exhibition from 15 contemporary Chinese artists curated by Cai Guo-Qiang. The talk discussed themes related to the exhibition including creativity, art education and cultural exchange, and speakers took part in an in-depth discussion on the state of contemporary Chinese art. ‘What About the Art? Contemporary Art from China’ is now open and will run until 16th July 2016 at the QM Gallery Al Riwaq, Doha. It is the major highlight of the Qatar China 2016 Year of Culture, a landmark initiative developed to deepen understanding between both nations and their people through mutual exchanges of arts, culture, heritage and sport.
