The Cathay Pacific Group reported an attributable profit of HK$347 million for the first six months of 2014. This compares to a profit of HK$24 million in the first half of 2013. Perfectly complementing such positive interim results is Cathay Pacific Airways having once again been named ‘World’s Best Airline’ in the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards. This is the fourth time Cathay Pacific has received the World’s Best Airline honour - the only airline to achieve such a feat. The carrier also took the title in 2003, 2005 and 2009.

The Group’s passenger revenue in the first six months of 2014 increased by 4.4% to HK$36,520 million compared to the same period in 2013. Capacity increased by 5.3% as a result of the introduction of new routes and increased frequencies on existing long-haul routes. The Cathay Pacific Cargo revenue for the first half of 2014 was HK$11,663 million, a rise of 3.4% compared to the same period in the previous year. Cathay Pacific Airways new cargo terminal in Hong Kong is operating smoothly and now provides services for airlines outside the Cathay Pacific Group.

Cathay Pacific introduced passenger services to Doha and Newark in March and has announced the introduction of services to Manchester and Zurich from December 2014 and March 2015 respectively. Dragonair, a fully-owned subsidiary of Cathay Pacific, started flying to Denpasar-Bali and Penang and increased services on a number of other routes.

The launch of the Doha route at the end of March this year showed tremendous response received from the market. The Doha route is being serviced by an Airbus A330-300 aircraft, which introduces Cathay Pacific’s three-class configuration to leisure and business travelers in Doha. This includes its award-winning Business Class, Premium Economy Class and long-haul Economy Class.

Cathay Pacific Airways Manager Qatar Nick Brooks said: “Cathay Pacific continues to strengthen our passenger network and the connections available through Hong Kong. With the launch of our Doha service in March and the high quality of our products and services, this has resulted in increased attractiveness to passengers and the extremely positive response it has received so far.

“As we expect the Doha route to perform even better in the second half of 2014, Cathay Pacific remains in a strong position to maintain the quality of our products and services and to continue with our long-term strategic investments,” he added. “Thus, as we are honored to have been recognized once again as the World’s Best Airline by Skytrax, we are likewise confident that we shall continue to receive such recognition for many more years to come.”

Skytrax is acknowledged as running one of the most comprehensive customer satisfaction surveys in the airline industry.18.85 million airline passengers from more than 160 countries voted for their favourite travel experiences between August 2013 and May 2014, which covered 245 airlines worldwide. The survey measures standards across 41 key performance indicators of airline products and services.
