ConocoPhillips’ Global Water Sustainability Center (GWSC) is proud to support the 2nd International Conference on Desalination and Environment: A Water Conference (ICODE) as Platinum Sponsor from 24-26 January 2016 at the Sheraton Doha Resort & Convention Hotel, Qatar. As ConocoPhillips’s designated world class center of excellence for key water technologies, GWSC is keen to sponsor and participate in the second edition of ICODE which represents an opportunity to foster new channels for scientific cooperation amongst national, regional and international institutions actively involved in desalination and water treatment research.

Dr. Samer Adham (pictured), Manager, Water Solutions, ConocoPhillips commented: “We are pleased to be the exclusive Platinum Sponsor for ICODE as it provides a forum for academics and members of the desalination industry to meet with scientists from around the world and discuss advances in the fields of desalination and water treatment. GWSC is committed to develop innovative water solutions on the global scale as well as promote water conservation in Qatar, and support of important industry events such as this is a vital part of our on-going efforts. We will continue to look for opportunities that help contribute to achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.”

Dr. Samer Adham went on to say that water security has been identified by the Qatar government as a key challenge for the country, “Given that Qatar’s population is expected to increase in the future, demand for water is also likely to rise significantly. The quality of life of future generations rests on how we manage key resources. Part of our work at GWSC is exchanging with other internationally renowned experts on desalination and related technologies so we are better able to address the water security challenges Qatar is facing.”

As well as learning about the work of other water professionals, GWSC will also be presenting two technical papers during ICODE on Membrane Distillation and Forward Osmosis. The first is entitled “Pilot-scale evaluation of membrane distillation for desalinating concentrated brines from thermal desalination plants” while the other addresses “Volume reduction of produced and process water by low-energy osmotic concentration”.

Dr. Samer Adham will also be giving a keynote speech at ICODE on “Desalination applications and opportunities in the oil/gas industry”.  Part of his presentation will look at GWSC’s lab and field testing data from recently evaluated desalination technologies including membrane distillation, forward osmosis and humidification-dehumidification. Water Solutions is responsible for delivery of technical support, innovative solutions and analytical capability as well as advancing technology and functional development across the whole water spectrum, from sourcing and/or production to treatment to reuse and/or disposal at ConocoPhillips.  Water Solutions team also includes ConocoPhillips’ Global Water Sustainability Centre located at Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP) in Doha.

ICODE 2016 will also include a series of plenary and keynote presentations by internationally renowned experts on desalination and related technologies, including thermal desalination, reverse osmosis technology, pre-treatment, post-treatment, membrane distillation, amongst others.
