The Intellectual Property Department of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce will hold a two-day workshop on World Intellectual Property Day starting this Sunday.

In a media statement released Wednesday, the Ministry said top experts will attend this workshop being organised in co-operation with The GCC Patent Office. The workshop aims to increase public awareness on respecting intellectual property, encourage creative work and legal aspects of protecting rights of owners. The workshop will cover topics related to intellectual property rights of inventors, businesses, entrepreneurs, universities, research and development centres, and industrial sector. It will push for co-ordination and integration between intellectual property offices and bodies at the workshop as well as discuss challenges for innovators and entrepreneurs. 

World Intellectual Property Day will be observed globally on April 26. Set up in 1967, World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) is the global forum for intellectual property services, policy, information and cooperation. It is a self-funding agency of the United Nations, with 188 member states. Qatar joined WIPO in 1976. WIPO works for a balanced and effective international intellectual property (IP) system that enables innovation and creativity for the benefit of all.
