October marks one year since ExxonMobil Qatar inaugurated its Tamayoz training program facilities at ExxonMobil Research Qatar, housed at the Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) in Doha. Nearly 800 participants from valued partner Qatar Petroleum; joint ventures RasGas and Qatargas; and Tasweeq and Nakilat have benefited from the 38 technical, commercial and operational courses held at the new facilities.

As the first comprehensive program of its kind in Qatar, Tamayoz focuses on professional and personal development opportunities through six targeted critical competency areas: leadership and personal effectiveness; commercial; project management; operations excellence; technical (surface and subsurface) and safety, health and the environment. The courses are taught by global ExxonMobil subject-matter experts as well as local professionals. QSTP, part of Qatar Foundation Research and Development, provides an ideal location for fostering the sharing of ideas and expertise. The new Tamayoz training facilities are part of ExxonMobil Qatar’s ongoing efforts to maximize knowledge transfer to professionals working in the local energy industry. It is also another important step in the company’s strategy to support Qatar’s national workforce development plans and drive human potential across the country.

“As the Tamayoz training program evolved, it became clear that it was having a far-reaching impact on our colleagues in Qatar’s energy industry,” said Alistair Routledge, President and General Manager for ExxonMobil Qatar. “The facility was an extension of this support: we wanted to offer participants a state-of-the-art space where we could continue to help high-potential individuals hone new skills.” “The fact that thousands of professionals in Qatar’s energy industry have benefited from our program is a source of great pride for us at ExxonMobil. We are proud to play our part in building Qatar’s knowledge-based economy sustained by the intellectual capabilities of its people.”

Four intensive courses were offered at the new Tamayoz facilities in September and October 2016. Two sessions of the popular Leading Teams course were held in September, which helped participants fine-tune their team leadership skills and provided tools to develop high-performing teams. The Gas Business Fundamentals course, also held in September, delivered a comprehensive view of the global gas value chain from exploration through to marketing the products; while last month’s Fundamentals of Cost and Schedule Engineering course outlined the basic concepts of cost engineering and data management for effective project management. The Oil and Gas Processing Technology course enabled participants to improve their fundamental understanding of thermodynamics, hydrocarbon behavior, and upstream processes.

More than 150 Tamayoz training courses have been offered free of charge to ExxonMobil Qatar’s partners and joint ventures, with close to 2,500 individuals receiving training since the inception of the program in 2012. Since January, 580 participants benefitted from 24 courses, surpassing the 400 industry professionals Tamayoz reached in 2015 through 35 courses.

ExxonMobil Qatar is committed to working hand-in-hand with its local partners to help build the capacity of individuals in the energy sector and other critical sectors, such as education. The company will continue to improve its Tamayoz training program and create opportunities to develop a stronger workforce that can drive economic growth expansion in the State of Qatar and compete globally.
