Ford unveils the all-new 2017 Ford Explorer, equipped with the latest innovation, building on the iconic car’s 25 years as an industry leader, having been first introduced in 1990 as a 1991 model. The revamped, redesigned, and technically advanced Ford Explorer has now been launched in Qatar.

Available through Almana Motors Company, the exclusive distributor of Ford in Qatar, the car which gave us room to roam reminds us that there is always an opportunity to grow and explore more. “Leading the SUV sector for more than a quarter of a decade, the reputable Explorer is a car of choice across Qatar, and the globe. The new model not only builds on its previous successes but also excels in terms of smart technology, comfort and appearance,” Ian Partridge, General Manager, Almana Motors Company said.

Offering more technology than previous models, the 2017 Ford Explorer enhances the driving experience. New technologies available for 2017 include:

  • SYNC 3: Providing owners the latest in driver connectivity
  • Front and rear cameras with washers: Both have wide-angle lenses and come equipped with a washer – a class-exclusive, segment-first feature
  • Enhanced active park assist with perpendicular park assist, park-out assist and semi-automatic parallel parking: The system uses ultrasonic sensors and electric power-assisted steering to help drivers with parallel parking and perpendicular parking maneuvers. Enhanced active park assist includes park-out assist to help a driver pull out of parallel parking spots. The system controls the steering wheel, while the driver operates the accelerator and brake pedals, and shifts the vehicle into gear
  • Smart-charging USB ports: Located in the front and rear of the vehicle are USB ports able to charge smart devices up to two times faster than conventional ports
  • Hands-free lift gate: A customer need only kick his or her leg below the center of the rear bumper to open or close the lift gate
  • Air curtains: Standard air curtains create a high-pressure region of air that impacts the outer surface of the wheels and tires. The result is airflow held close to the vehicle body, minimizing drag

Other features, including the adaptive cruise control and collision warning with break support, lane-keeping system, blind spot information system (BLIS®), cross-traffic alert, auto high-beams and inflatable rear safety belts, which have become synonymous with Explorer and its previous models, are still present in the 2017 model. The standard 3.5-liter V6 engine for base, XLT and Limited models – with 294 PS at 6,500 rpm and 346 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm – is paired with a six-speed SelectShift® Automatic transmission. Explorer Sport delivers 370 PSat5,500 rpm and 470 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm – also mated with the six-speed SelectShift.

Explorer’s intelligent four-wheel drive with Terrain Management System™ reassesses conditions about 20 times faster than the blink of an eye – providing precise handling and traction, while continuously monitoring wheel speed, throttle position and steering wheel angle to determine vehicle conditions and driver intent, enabling that the vehicle keeps sure-footed on virtually any terrain. Ford has completely retuned the Explorer chassis to clearly differentiate the driving experiences offered by the XLT and Sport models. The suspension uses MacPherson construction with an isolated sub frame and 32-millimeter stabilizer bar at the front, while an independent multilink rear setup uses a 22-millimeter stabilizer bar. Explorer Sport customers looking for a more dynamic driving experience will benefit from unique steering gear, front and rear springs, struts and rear dampers.

New Explorer owners will notice a new rugged design, featuring a higher positioning of the grille and LED headlamps, a new closed-off lower roof rack with channels that cascade rainwater off the vehicle and a new rear spoiler – also improving aerodynamics. Innovation has been put on full display with the addition of heat-sink structures for cooling the LED headlamps integrated into a complex headlamp design. Ford consumer research has been fed into the interior design. Changes include a higher-mounted, wrapped and stitched door armrest, real buttons to replace touch-sense buttons on the infotainment system and more refined detailing throughout.

Almana Motors Company opened its new Ford showroom on Airport Road earlier this year. The new facility is significantly larger than its previous premises, offering its customers more luxurious surroundings to browse the latest models from the American automotive company. The Airport Road showroom will be open from 8:30am to 9pm from Saturday to Thursday, and from 4pm to 8pm on Friday.
