Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is undertaking infrastructure upgrades and maintenance work at Hamad General Hospital (HGH) in preparation for the introduction of service improvements including an expansion of bed capacity in the Medical Intensive Care Unit by 33 percent.

HMC has prioritized expanding availability of intensive care beds and trauma services to meet demand and ensure critical care patients receive the best care at the right time, in the right place and at international standards. At HMC we are continuously improving all of our hospitals and facilities to ensure we provide the safest, most effective and compassionate care to our patients. The improvements, which will see a new and larger Intensive Care Unit established on the second floor of HGH, will ensure more space for each critically ill patient.

In order to facilitate these improvements for our critically ill patients, over the next two weekends, HGH is undertaking essential maintenance work. This Friday, 20 March, 2015, as a result of the extensive nature of this work, some areas of the hospital will be without power for a short period.  We have worked hard to ensure minimal impact on our patients and visitors. High quality care will be maintained at all times. The emergency department at HGH will operate as normal.

We would like to thank our patients and visitors for their support and understanding as we work to enhance our critical care services and upgrade our facilities.
