Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, is now accepting online applications for admission to the Translation and Interpreting Institute’s (TII­) Master in Translation Studies (MATS) and in Audiovisual Translation (MAAT). Established with the mission of building translation capacity in Qatar, and the region, TII will be offering these programs starting in September 2015.

The Master in Translation Studies is a two-year program designed to train highly skilled translators from different private sectors, as well as providing training in translation for international organizations. The program focuses primarily on the translation of written documents and offers courses in translation technologies and research methodologies. It also provides students with work placement experience, thus equipping them with a sound foundation that they will need for success in both the professional and academic arena. TII’s MATS program has been accredited by the University of Geneva.

Also a two- year program, the Master in Audiovisual Translation (MAAT) offers students a varied curriculum, including:introductory and advanced subtitling and dubbing,creating voice-overs, and media translation. The program also teaches students subtitling for the hearing impaired, audio-description for the visually impaired, and the selection and adaptation of translation technologies for the needs of different language communities.

TII invites engaged, ambitious, and diligent individuals seeking intellectual and professional development opportunities to submit their applications by March 1, 2015. Eligible applicants will have successfully completed a Bachelor degree from a nationally or internationally accredited institution, or are scheduled to graduate before August 1, 2015. Students must also demonstrate a strong command of English and Arabic.

Admission is highly competitive. Applicants are required to submit university transcripts, English proficiency test reports, a detailed résumé (CV), and a copy of their passport. Applicants are also required to complete an admissions essay focusing on provided topics related to the different fields of translation. Please visit for more information and to apply now!
