Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Marubeni Corporation of Japan on the implementation of a pilot project to establish a photovoltaic charging station for electric vehicles. Under this MoU, this station will be the first photovoltaic charging station for electric vehicles working as a power storage system in Qatar.

The agreement was signed by HE Eng. Essa Bin Hilal Al Kuwari, President of Kahramaa, and Mr. Yoshiyaki Yokota, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Marubeni Energy Department. The signing of the MoU took place at the main building of Kahramaa, and was attended by a number of officials of both parties. Eng. Abdul Aziz Al Hammadi, Director of Kahramaa's Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department, said that the MoU between Kahramaa and Marubeni is an initiative to invest clean energy in the charging of electric vehicles and reduce carbon emissions.
