KONE, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, has won an order for 139 elevators, escalators and autowalks to be installed at the Lusail Light Rail Transit system, a railway transportation project currently under construction in the new city of Lusail, north of Doha, Qatar.

The Lusail Light Rail Transit network will comprise 10km of underground track, four main tram lines, of ground level and elevated tracks and passenger stations. In the near future, the rail network will connect to Doha’s metro network at a network interchange located on Khor highway. To ensure accessibility and seamless transfer for the passengers through the stations, the KONE equipment will include 49 Elevators, 82 Escalators, 8 horizontal autowalks.

The Lusail Light Rail Transit System is designed by architecture firm ATKINS and built by QDVC (Qatari Diar Vinci Construction Grands projects Company). “We are extremely honored to have won this project,” says Mark Bayyari, Managing Director for Qatar. “With our solid understanding of the passenger requirements in the public transport sector and our eco-efficient equipment, we look forward to ensuring a smooth and seamless transit experience for the commuters.”
