An agreement recently signed between Qatar University (QU) and Korea Foundation established a Korean language teaching program at QU that will begin in the next academic year.

The agreement was signed by QU president Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al-Misnad and Korea Foundation president Dr Hyun-seok Yu in Korea, in the presence of QU College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) dean Dr Eiman Mustafawi, CAS associate dean for outreach and engagement Dr Fatma Al-Sowaidi, and QU Gulf Studies Center director Dr Abdullah Baabood. The new agreement will serve to reinforce scientific cooperation between the two institutions, and aims to promote the Korean language at QU. It comes in line with the efforts of both Qatar and Korea to strengthen economic, educational and cultural ties.

In the terms of the agreement, QU will promote and develop Korean language courses within its curricula for students who desire to learn the language and be oriented on the culture. Korea Foundation will appoint qualified candidates to teach the language at QU in the role of visiting professors, according to QU accreditation requirements. Welcoming the agreement, Prof Al-Misnad said: “This agreement highlights the spirit of collaboration which contributes to QU’s ability to graduate well-rounded individuals, prepared to compete at the highest level in a globalized labor market. We are very pleased to partner with Korea Foundation in this unique program which is a new milestone in the development of the links between Qatar and Korea in the field of education.”
