The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) published the twenty eighth issue of the monthly Statistics of Building Permits issued by all municipalities of the State, an MDPS press release said.

In a quick review of the data on building permits issued during the month of April 2017, according to their geographical distribution, we find that Rayyan municipality comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building permits issued were 155 permits, i.e. 25% of the total issued permits while Doha municipality came in second place with 135 permits, i.e. 22%, followed by municipality of Al Wakrah with 110 permits (18%), then municipality of Al Da'ayen with 90 permits, i.e.15%.The rest of the municipalities were as follows : Umm Slal 60 permits (10%), Al Khor 39 permits (6%), Al Shamal 15 permits (2%), and finally Al Sheehaniya 14 permits (2%).

In terms of type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitutes 58% (359 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of April 2017, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 39% (238 permits), and finally fencing permits with 3% (21 permits). By analyzing new residential buildings permits data, we find that villas' permits top the list, accounting for 49% (146 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans by 40% (120 permits) and apartments buildings by 9% (25 permits).

On the other hand, industrial buildings e.g. workshops and factories were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 38% (23 permits), followed by commercial buildings and mosques alike with 26% (16 permits) each, then governmental buildings with 5% (3 permits). Comparing number of permits issued in April 2017 with those issued in the previous month we noted a general decrease of 7%. This decrease was clearly noted in the municipalities of Al Shamal (25%), Rayyan (18%), Doha (14%), Al Da'ayen (1%). On the other hand there was a clear increase in the municipalities of Al Khor (18%), Umm Slal (7%), Wakrah (1%), but Al Sheehaniya municipality maintained the same number of issued permits.

The release of this monthly data comes under the joint cooperation between the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment to make use of the existing electronic link between the two ministries.
