In the context of the precautionary and preventive measures that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) announced to limit the spread of the coronavirus, the ministry has urged retail outlets to abide by a set of precautionary measures to protect the safety of citizens and residents.

These steps include measuring the body temperature of staff members of the outlets twice a day; providing sterilisers at the main entrances, gathering places and toilets; sterilising shopping carts before their use by shoppers; and continuously sterilising surfaces such as refrigerator doors and handles.

The steps are in pursuant to Article No.13 of the Consumer Protection Law No. 8 of 2008, which requires suppliers to comply with health and safety requirements. Commercial complexes and retail outlets in the country have signed a declaration pledging to comply with the precautionary conditions. The MoCI has called on all retail outlets to strictly adhere to these conditions and stressed that it will intensify inspections to ensure their compliance with these requirements. The ministry said it will refer violators of laws and ministerial decisions to competent authorities who will take appropriate measures against them to protect the rights of consumers.

The ministry said consumers have an important role to play in terms of reporting any violations or infringements. The MoCI processes complaints and suggestions through: Call centre: 16001, email:, Twitter @MOCIQATAR, Instagram MOCIQATAR, and mobile app on iPhones and Android devices: MOCIQATAR.
