All the necessary preparations to secure the hosting of World Athletics Championship Doha 2019 in Qatar have been made, Captain BurhanSaleh al Turki, asst. head of the Security Committee of the championship and director of security at Khalifa International Stadium has said.

Capt Turki said that all the units of the Security Committee are fully and professionally ready to secure the championships and the public who will be attending the events. He added that the committee has made sure to secure the stadium premises and outside, while implementing an elaborate traffic plan before and during the tournament to facilitate smooth holding of the championship. Capt Turki added further that advanced security plans are in place to guarantee security of the stadium and scores of visitors to attend the much-awaited championship. There is also the National Command Center (NCC) to monitor security arrangements and to remain in constant touch with each security units at the venue.

According to Capt Turki, stage-wise entry of visitors to the stadium has been planned to ensure security and safety of all. The visitors will be required to be at the seven large tents first, two hours before the event. Set up adjacent to the entrance gates, these tents lead to the 28 gates opening to the stadium where the security inspections will take place. The seats have been arranged according to the gates and ticket numbers to avoid inconvenience to the audience. There will be volunteers to assist people inside the stadium. Meanwhile, he has urged the audience to not to carry prohibited items such as crackers, glass bottles, small strollers, sharp tools, pets and other solid objects that may cause harm to the stadium.

The Women Police of the MoI and Lekhwiya will play vital role during the championship. According to Major Kholoud Anbar al Nuaimi (pictured), head of the Women Police department at the Police Training Institute, said: “We will be working for the security and safety of all female athletes as well as local and international visitors. Right from receiving female delegations to organising their visits across Qatar, we will be taking care of everything.” Nuaimi also mentioned their successful experience during the Asian Games. Regarding the training of the women units, Major Rawda Masoud al Abdullah, the commander of the women’s security company at Lekhwiya, said that in coordination with the Police Training Institute, a professional programme for military personnel has been developed to enhance their skills in communication, planning and organisation.
