HE Minister of Transport Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, who heads the steering committee of the Hamad Port project, said the early partial operation of the port is a source of pride. Speaking during the opening ceremony that was attended by HE Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the minister said the event is another significant achievement for Qatar in conjunction with celebrating the National Day.
In February 2015, HE the minister said, the port was officially named Hamad Port and its basin was immersed, adding that it received the first commercial vessel in July, which had on deck the first batch of cranes intended for use in the project. HE Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, and HH Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thani for their unlimited support to bring success to all the giant development projects in the country.
He added that the close follow-up of HE the premier was one of the main reasons behind the partial opening of the project ahead of schedule and in line with the set budget, noting that the Ministry of Transport keeps progressing towards the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030 by expanding the infrastructure of transport, developing roads as well as air, marine and rail networks, and preparing for the 2022 World Cup, which, he stressed, reflects the vision of the wise leadership in developing the capacities of the country so as to achieve prosperity and sustainability.
