With a view to strengthen its outreach towards bowel cancer awareness and to celebrate international bowel cancer awareness month, Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) announces the launch of Bowel Cancer campaign, “I Got Screened & Encourage You Too”. Just like every year, this year too, PHCC, through its highly successful Screen for Life program, aims to enhance its reach to the people of Qatar on the importance of early screening for bowel cancer.

This year’s campaign tagline “I Got Screened & Encourage You Too” is a message from participants who got screened for bowel cancer in the Program’s clinics and would like to encourage others to do the same. People’s experience affects others positively and encourage them to do the same. This message is sent through videos that will be posted on the Program’s social media accounts and advertisements in the newspapers and screens in malls. As part of the International Bowel Cancer Awareness month, PHCC is leading a Bowel Cancer Campaign to raise awareness on the prevention of bowel cancer and advise the public about the benefits of early detection as it can lead up to 90% survival rate. The campaign aims to increase the screening figures and encourage people to take action.

According to Qatar Cancer Registry, bowel cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in Qatar and a leading cause of death among men and women in the State. To mark the global Bowel Cancer Awareness month, the ‘Screen for Life’ campaign will include a series of reminder messages urging both men and women, specifically in the target age bracket of 50-74, and inspire them to take a proactive approach to their health. Through this initiative, people are constantly reminded that they can carry out the Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) test with ease in the privacy of their own home and they can collect their complementary kit from one of the PHCC screening suites at Al Wakra, Leabaib and Rawdat Al Khail Health Centers.

On the launch of this campaign, Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha, Manager of Screening Programs at PHCC, said, “Screen for Life is a program by PHCC aiming to educate and raise awareness on the importance of early detection of breast and bowel cancer in Qatar. Buoyed by the tremendous response we have gained over the years, we are confident that our campaign this year, “I Got Screened & Encourage You Too” is going to be all the more impactful and will help Qatar become one of the healthier nations across the globe.”

“Over the coming months this campaign will keep reminding people to go for regular screening at one of the three screening suites and ensure that they lead a healthy life. Additionally, to achieve a rather exemplary growth, our centers are working across the year to offer Qatari citizens screening appointments as per their convenience,” she added. “To further enhance the intensity of the awareness campaign, our team will be delivering powerful messages encouraging people that everybody has a part to play in raising awareness and sharing the importance of screening as we work collectively to tackle this disease and ease the local and global burden of cancer. We will also be hosting mall activations, workshops and lectures to educate people on bowel cancer during this campaign.”

Through this campaign, Screen for Life team aims to remind both men and women that it is easy to get screened at the PHCC screening suites and should do it even when there are no signs or symptoms. The appropriate age for bowel cancer screening is 50-74 for men and women both.

Patients can get the bowel screening done at any of the three screening suites at Al Wakra, Leabaib and Rawdat Al Khail Health Centers by taking a prior appointment to avoid any hassle. To book an appointment for screening, call the dedicated call center on 8001112.
