Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) Q.S.C., the leading regional petrochemical powerhouse, is pleased to announce its support to the 2nd edition of the Symposium aimed at uniting and empowering the people with special disabilities. This pioneering symposium is organized by  Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Independent Preparatory School for Boys supported by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

On the occasion of the sponsorship announcement, QAPCO signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Preparatory School, to become the main sponsor of the much-anticipated event. The three days Symposium will take place in Wakra, from the 29th to the 31st of October 2013, at the Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Preparatory School.

This unique seminar aims at bringing together parents, educators, researchers, therapists, social centers, teachers and people with special needs and learning challenges. The audience will be able to participate in workshops, focus groups, network and interact as well as attend specialized lectures given by professionals and experts.

During the MOU signature with the school, Dr. Mohammed Al Mulla, Vice Chairman and CEO of QAPCO stated: “The engagement, involvement and support extended by  Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Preparatory School to the people with special needs is admirable and it is our responsibility to offer our upmost support to their endeavor.”

The forum is open to all and aims to provide support, information, guidance and assistance to the participants while raising awareness about special needs in general. Experience sharing will also be encouraged. This Symposium highlights the commitment of Abdulrahman Bin Jassim School to enhance the education and quality of life for individuals with learning disabilities and others who experience challenges in learning.

At the MOU signature, Mr. Yousuf Abdulla Al-Abdulla the principal of Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Preparatory School stated: “Building on the success of its first edition in 2012, the Symposium is much anticipated by many actors of the community, from students, families and social centers. The contribution, enthusiasm and involvement of parents made the difference in our first symposium and we do hope to see the same participation and engagement in our upcoming edition in a few days. The forum aims at being informative and to provide practical solutions  for the benefits of our community. We would like to thank QAPCO for their generous support and assistance. “

 Over 25 institutions and organization had participated in the first edition.

Dr. Al Mulla also mentioned: “We are honored to support such an essential initiative aimed at promoting a greater understanding of the learning disabilities experienced by people with special needs and identify ways to best assist them to meet their social, emotional, physical and academic needs, to further empower them. We have been collaborating with Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Preparatory School on many fronts. Now more than ever, we stand by them, supporting this valuable Symposium. For us at QAPCO, reaching out to our community in Mesaieed and Wakra is fundamental and we aim at encouraging the participation in this forum, designed to inform and find means to better enable people with special needs.”

Dr. Al Mulla continued: “It is our role, as a community partner, to support such initiatives. Learning disabilities can be truly challenging for many and we aim at reinforcing solidarity and cohesion in the society on that level. Communication, experience sharing and connections make us all stronger and well equipped to face challenges and to build a happy and harmonious community, united and mobilized around a shared commitment: enhancing the quality of life of each and every one. “

One of QAPCO’s priorities, as part of its CSR programs and aligned on the key pillars and values of the Qatar National Vision 2030, is to focus on the integration of the people with learning challenges and to offer the right support and environment to those who need special assistance. To contribute on translating the Vision into a reality, QAPCO engages with the local community via an array of different activities to encourage social integration while promoting the values of sharing and care for one another. As such, QAPCO’s Women committee is involved in various recreational and educational activities with Social Centers and sponsors on a yearly basis the production of a Sign Language Book.
