Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Japan; Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) and the Qatari Embassy in Tokyo are organizing Qatar week: Ferjan in Tokyo from 5th – 10th of July 2012 at Tokyo International Forum. Eighteen government and private organizations from Qatar are participating in the event.

The event is part of the ongoing Qatar-Japan 2012 program to express and celebrate the strength of ties between the two nations through a series of cultural events that will heighten awareness of the culture of each country. Various activities are planned in both countries including exhibitions, educational exchange programs, fashion shows, friendly football matches, and business forums.

The first event for Qatar-Japan 2012 was “Murakami – Ego” an exhibition by renowned Japanese artist Takashi Murakami in Qatar from 9th February – 24th June 2012 at ALRIWAQ DOHA exhibition space.

The Japanese cinema series organized by DFI is ongoing at MIA auditorium. Earlier events were part of Qatar-Japan 2012 are; Wheels n’ Heels, “Taiko” traditional Japanese drumming, Lecture on Kimono and Traditional Dance and Japanese food exhibition.

Qatar and Japan have been major trade and business partners, however, in recent years their friendship has expanded into new areas such as: education, culture and technology. Key to the relationship is mutual respect and support, as was evident following this year’s tragic tsunami when Qatar contributed and supported reconstruction efforts.
